365 Days of Twinipedia - Day 43

Day Forty-three of Twinipedia:

Fact #43
About 44% of twin pregnancies start with some form of fertility assistance.  Couples who are having trouble conceiving sometimes opt for InVetro Fertilization, more commonly referred to as IVF.  This is when the egg cells are fertilized by the father's sperm outside the mother's body.  Those eggs are then placed back inside the woman's uterus in hopes that the eggs will implant and the couple will become pregnant.
In cases of IVF, About.comabout Pregnancy noted that most Md's who are helping women to become pregnant this way, will usually place 3 or more fertilized eggs back into the uterus. The rationale is that not all of these eggs will implant...
And although not every woman will successfully have eggs implant in her uterus, some women will actually have All the eggs implant in their uterus at once, taking them from their lives of infertility-issues to their new lives as Multiples-Mamas-To-Be.
