A baby-friendly carrier for singletons, twins and preemies.

There are a lot of carriers for babies out there on the market today but only a few are made for twins.  And very few are made with the safety and needs of preemies in mind.  Well, here is a carrier that was designed by the original makers of the Snuggi carrier and who, after not being thrilled with were Snuggi's direction had gone as a company over the years, decided to create a new, more baby friendly carrier for singletons, twins and preemies alike.  There are many other carriers out there but after reviewing the Moby and a few other baby carriers, this is the carrier I found to be the best option for any parent with multiples, and preemies (or even for those with just a little single prince or princess).  I especially like this carrier because there was a lot of thoughtfulness put into how this carrier's design respects the needs of a newborn baby's body and because it is easy to use alone with your little ones (No second pair of hands are needed to place the babes).
"Many (carriers) do not meet even the basic requirements for a good baby carrier. In particular, the baby's legs must not hang down straight but should be bent at an angle of at least 90° ("frog-like-position"). The baby's back should be supported enough to bring the baby close to the person carrying it. The baby's head should be supported properly and fully. The smaller the baby, the more important the compliance with these criteria."

Here is some additional product info. from the companies website.

The Weego TWIN is the first baby carrier for twins. It is intended for use particularly in the first few months and gives you the possibility to carry both babies together on your front. This not only enables you to give both babies a lot of closeness and physical contact but also facilitates many situations (shopping, going for walks) without having to take a big twin-stroller along.

The Weego Twin can be used from birth on - starting at a weight of the babies of 3 lbs (1.600g) each. This allows the use of the Weego TWIN also with premature babies. Depending on the weight and size of the babies, it can be used until the twins are approximately 5 - 6 months old.

Like the original Weego, the Weego TWIN comes with the special double pouch systemwhich ensures the orthopedically correct posture of your babies. It easily adjusts for growing babies and for fitting different people carrying them.

The Weego TWIN is made of navy light cotton twill with blue and green plaid lining. It is machine washable at 30°C (92°F) and can be tumble dried at low temperature.

Price: US$ 149

  • especially designed double-pouch construction
  • for babies from 0 - 24 months
  • "grows" with the baby
  • easy to handle
  • easily adjustable for growing baby and to fit different people
  • 3 carrying positions

The especially designed double pouch construction of the Weego Baby Carrier guarantees that your baby is always secure, comfortable and cosy:
  • The inner pouch supports your baby's back
  • The outer pouch supports your baby's head and neck and protects your baby
  • The outer pouch, in connection with the shaped inner pouch, always ensures the "frog-like-position"
  • The Weego easily adjusts for growing baby and to fit different people carrying the baby.

1. Face-in (0 - 9 months): Face-in is the standard position and the most convenient for cuddling and sleeping, especially for newborns and very small babies. With its head against your chest your baby feels safe and close.

2. Face-out (from 5 months on): Face out is the "exploring" position when your baby can hold its head unassisted. Start taking your baby on stimulating adventures to experience the world…like to the zoo or on hikes in the woods.
3. Backpack (0 - 24 months): In this position, newborn infants can be carried comfortably and securely and bigger and heavier babies can be carried comfortably piggy-back style for a longer time.

SO I SAY CHECK THIS CARRIER OUT AT YOUR LOCAL BABY STORE OR GO ONE LINE, ORDER ONE.   AND BE ASSURED THAT THIS COMPANY HAS REALLY TRIED TO MAKE A CARRIER THAT PROTECTS YOUR BABY AND RESPECTS THE NEEDS OF YOUR BABY'S GROWING BODY.  Check them out at http://www.weego.com

  2. Interesting. I'm a big fan of babywearing, and this is the first carrier I've seen that's designed specifically for twins.

  3. @Summer - just check the age cut off size/weight first but yes, this thing kicks butt for twinsters!
@Jen - The Moby wraps also have twin wearing options but this Weego is so easy to put on and you can put the babies in on your own...no second pair of hands needed. From my own experience with the Moby, it takes a lot of practice to get good at placing the baby/babbies in on your own.
