Yesterday was World Humanitarian Day, a day to commemorate and recognize those who help others in our world, even in places filled with danger, illness and severe poverty.
WHDIWASHERE.org explains World Humanitarian Day - "Every year on August 19th, World Humanitarian Day recognizes those
who face danger and adversity to help others. August 19th is the
anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in
Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 people.
We honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we pay
tribute to those who continue to help people around the world,
regardless of who they are and where they are.
Every day we see and hear images and stories of pain and suffering
in our own neighborhoods and in countries far away. But we also find
acts of kindness, great and small. World Humanitarian Day is a global
celebration of people helping people." We here at TwinsWithTots want to thank those who choose to go out and help others that need it. Those acts of selflessness and bravery and kindness, we will always remember because those humanitarians are there saving lives and making a difference.

Not sure how much we believe in the whole Twin ESP (aka Extra Sensory Perception) or Telepathy thing but there is no doubt that there are times when as twin sisters, we have connections that seem to be "out there" experiences that involved no sharing of our physical senses in order to be made aware of something or to experience something between us.
Telepathy is defined on Wiki as the transference of thoughts or feelings between two or more subjects through
the Psi aka the Psyche, mind, or soul.
ESP is defined as the reception of information not gained through the recognized physical senses but sensed with the mind.
And although we wonder if these are really real, we do sometimes have strange experiences that make us go "Hmm". For example, today Cathy found herself rubbing and rubbing her back, left shoulder. It has always bothered her since she had surgery on it about 15 years ago in order to have a fatty tumor removed (Yup, sounds gross but that's what the MD's called it and hell if they can remove some of the fat from our body in ANY form, even tumor form, we say more power to them). This spot has been bothering Cathy more than usual over the last few months. She did not think much about why, especially since the spot did not seemed to have changed in any way. But today, she was complaining to her husband about the deep ache she keeps getting. She was telling him and showing him where it hurts and he asked why she thought it was bothering her again since she said the spot did not seem to have any growth or change in it. This is when she found herself telling him how she didn't know for sure why it hurt but did think it was awfully weird and coincidental that Becca just had a Fatty Tumor (or TOOMMAAAA as Cathy always likes to say , like Arnold Schwarzenegger said the word tumor in the move Twins) on her back a few months ago that she needed to have removed (yes, a coincidence in itself that we both had one of these weird buggers...in our backs...on mirroring sides...and no other siblings got them) and that her back seems to have been aching since just after Becca's surgery. Cathy caught herself then telling her husband that she knew that just thinking that this out-of-the-ordinary type connection was the real cause of her discomfort was wacky but she just couldn't help it. That Twin connection thing just seems too uncanny sometimes.
Now the scientist/critical thinker side of us totally knows that this ache could be due to Cathy working out with her neighbor regularly over the last few weeks or the fact that she has been working on a website for work and therefore has been hunched over more at her computer desk...but ya' gotta admit that the coincidence is, as us Rhode Islanders would say, Way Wicked Weird!
There have been many other times in our lives when we have had experiences that seemed like strange coincidences. And although we can usually identify other reasons why what happened may have actual happened, being twins still makes us think twice about the scenarios. We get a kick out of the possibility that our Twin connection is so significant that we could maybe, just possibly, have an ESP/Telepathy-like ability.
So, what are your thoughts on Twin ESP/Telepathy or out of the ordinary connections? Have you experienced anything like this as a twin, sibling of a twin or have you seen it between your own twins/multiples?
We grew up sailing in Rhode Island on Narragansett Bay and I actually met my future husband when he and I learned to sail and sailboat race together as youngin's (We have known each other since I was 11 years old - yup!).
My sister, my husband and I spent our teenage and college summers teaching sailing to local kids and what a fabulous summer job it was. Sailing, sun, fun, water and teaching little buggers about something we all loved.
Well, because of this great love of the water and sailing, Becca and I have always been drawn to nautical inspired things...ie. shirts with anchors on them, jewelry with a sailboat as a charm, bags made out of sailboat sail material, rope head bands... So you can imagine our delight this a.m. when we got an email from the Rhode Island-based business Alex and Ani sharing their new, nautically fabulous "Nautical Siren" jewelry collection that was just released today.
We adore the Love Knot bracelet and my niece is going to flip over the Mermaid bracelet. I am liking the new anchor piece too. It's different from their past anchor bracelets since these anchors are part of the wrap-around style and not a charm. Cool look!
Best part, Alex and Ani use only recycled materials to make their jewelry which makes us love their pieces that much more since recycling helps the environment, which, in turn helps Save Our beloved Narragansett Bay. Go Recycling!!!!!
Check these great new additions out and happy sailing, swimming, shopping and summering from me and Becca! Oh and check out their Olympic themed collection as well. Wear your USA spirit on your arm!
Twin sisters from South Carolina seem to have decided that being born on the same day themselves just wasn't enough of a cool thing. Instead, they went and had their own babies on the same day, just 20 years later.
The sisters, Zaakira Mitchell and Shaakira White gave birth on July 24th, 2012.
And to mix things up even more, Shaakira White gave birth to twins of her own. Two little boys.
Twist of fate: Identical twin sisters Zaakira Mitchell, left, and Shaakira White gave birth on the same day, just an hour apart via ABCNews.com

From the Archives - Becca just got home from Germany yesterday.
We have talked about 6 times on the phone already and the conversations were pretty much the same as this one that occurred just about a year ago. She still has the 2 kids with her, is still jet lagged and is still thrilled to be back in the USA.
Here is the write up and video of our 1st phone conversation at this time last year after Becca and her girls arrived home from Europe.
I swear it could have been videoed just yesterday.
Becca and her girls are HOME!-
I wanted to say a BIG Welcome Home to my Twin sister Becca and my 2 nieces. We are so excited that they are back in the U.S. for a visit and can not wait to get together in person with them in the next few days. YEAH!!! So that you could get to know us a little bit more as twins and can also have fun experience the giddy joy we feel when we can talk to each other whenever we want and without a time zone issue, we videoed our first "welcome home" phone conversation from yesterday for your viewing fun. This video cracks me up and I love how our walls come totally down when we talk to eachother. I love watching the comfort we feel talking while not being effected by background kid interruptions and silly disagreements. Love that we have this to watch in the future too.

A chocolate bar weighing a massive 4,410kg(9,722 lb) has been made in Armenia. The super-sized sweet was made by Grand Candy to celebrate their 10th anniversary. It took 48 hours to mix the chocolate, five of which were spent roasting and grinding cocoa beans.
